The Apple Barn is in a beautiful valley
of outstanding natural beauty close to the east bank of the
River Fowey, half way between the creek-side village of Lerryn & St.Winnow. A footpath network links the two
villages along the waters edge and through the woods and
countryside. Lerryn is beautiful old world
village on the creek edge with a well stocked shop, post
office and local pub [Ship Inn] that keeps local ales and
serves food to a varied menu. Cream teas can be bought from
the shop and eaten at the tables on the village green beside
the creek.
St. Winnow is a small hamlet on
the
Fowey estuary bank with
a 7th century famous church
and a farming museum. Walkers and visitors can find teas,
and homemade cakes next to the farm museum [spring-summer]
overlooking the church and estuary.
Lostwithiel the ancient capital of
Cornwall] lies 1.5 miles up river and has a variety of good
quality local shops, a super-market, numerous antique shops
and plenty of places to find food and refreshment. |

The Black Prince's castle lies just out of town & crossing
the river footbridge below one can find the new Duchy café
opened by Prince Charles within the garden centre on the
hill. For walkers and ramblers The Saints
Way from Fowey to Padstow is very close as is the famous
coast path running the entire length of the Cornish
coastline. Within a short drive the wilds of Bodmin moor can
be found, along with the hidden coves and beaches of south
Cornwall.
The historic old harbours of
Fowey, Polperrow, Looe, Charlestown and Mevagissey are all
close by car, and it is a short hop across to the dramatic
cliffs and surf of the north coast.
The Eden project is situated 6 miles
away, Lanhydrock House is 3 and Heligan Gardens are 10 miles
to the west, and our lovely local sandy beaches can be
explored at Polkerris, Menabilly, Lantic Bay and Readymoney
Cove in Fowey. |
